    Espace Vanhomwegen is a place of experimentation and artistic freedom, where artists have the opportunity to work outside of institutional frameworks. It cultivates and sustains collaboration between diverse artistic disciplines and practices, encourages cultural exchange, and provides a space where art can engage in a dialogue with a wide audience. Acting as an independent network, its core mission is to connect people through art, thereby strengthening the cultural community and supporting sustainable artistic development.

Espace Vanhomwegen emerged after the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of it's profound impact on the art world, causing many artists to rethink their approach to their work and their relationship with the institutions and systems that support them. Many artists have had to cancel or postpone shows and events, resulting in lost income and opportunities for exposure. As a result, some artists have felt the need to take more control over their careers, seeking out new ways to exhibit and promote their work.

    The pandemic has also underscored the importance of community and collaboration for artists which gave impuls to take action and sought out new ways to connect and support one another, forming collaborative networks to share resources, promote each other's work.

  5. Espace Vanhomwegen induces to bring artists from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds together. This can lead to new artistic collaborations, as well as a greater appreciation and understanding of different artistic traditions and perspectives. By providing opportunities for artists to connect and share their network, Espace Vanhomwegen support and develop a autonomous artistic ecosystem for the Belgian emerging art-scene.

  7. The first art show at Espace Vanhomwegen took place from September to October 2021. From this day on, Espace Vanhomwegen curated more than 8 exhibitions and hosted numerous events presenting live acts, performances and trans-disciplinary art shows. The interactions between a variety of disciplines and artistic practices, facilitates cross-disciplinary collaborations and increases exposure and reach.
